Camps Bay holiday reset
Sun, salt and wind can be hard on blonde hair, especially on a Camps Bay holiday. Here’s how a client reset her salon blonde after a week by the Atlantic.
A blonde’s summer on the Atlantic coast
Our client came in just before the December holidays with classic Cape Town summer plans: a week in Camps Bay, plenty of time outdoors, and at least one sunset swim every day. She had finely highlighted hair, lifted light but not platinum, and wanted to keep her colour clean and soft for the festive season and New Year’s brunches. Her main worry was faded toner and dry, rough ends from the sun and sea spray. She also mentioned that past holidays left her with an itchy scalp and tangles that took weeks to sort out.
She’d just had her toner redone at her colourist in town, so her hair was fresh but still a bit fragile from lightening. The goal was keeping the brightness and gloss she loved, without the straw feeling or the yellow shift that can come after a coastal holiday in the Cape.

The plan: soft maintenance for salt and sun
We built a travel kit with her: Blonde Wash Soft for gentle cleansing, Violet Soft Rinse to reinforce her tone every second wash, and Sun Shield Mist with UV filters for daily use and top-ups after swimming. She also took along a mini Length Oil Drop to smooth the ends each evening and reduce friction when sleeping on hotel linen, Camps Bay rentals can be stunning but dont always have silk pillowcases.
For swimming, we suggested wetting her hair with tap water first, then misting in Sun Shield before the pool or sea. A loose braid and a hat helped limit exposure during long beach days. She packed a silk wrap to use at night and made it a habit to rinse after every swim, using the Blonde Wash Soft only as needed to avoid over-cleansing.
- Wet hair with tap water before swims
- Apply Sun Shield Mist before and after sun exposure
- Violet Soft Rinse every 2 to 4 days
Tweaks after the first week in Camps Bay
After her first week, she sent us an update through our contact form: her blonde was still cool, but the lengths felt a bit rough and the ends looked fluffy, especially after late afternoon breezes. We checked in and decided to swap her mid-week Violet Soft Rinse for a Silk Repair Mask session instead, to restore softness and help with detangling. She also lightened up on the violet product, making sure it didn’t sit too long to avoid a dull cast.
She found reapplying Sun Shield Mist in the afternoon (and not just in the morning) kept her hair from feeling parched after windy beach walks. By the end of her trip, her colour stayed surprisingly even and her scalp felt calm, no tightness or flaking despite all the sun.
Tips for other blonde holidays in Cape Town
If you’re taking your blonde or lightened hair to Camps Bay, soft water and coastal humidity can be a blessing, but sea salt and the long, bright days need planning. Protect against both UV and dryness: hats, light leave-in products with UV filters, and a gentle wash schedule go a long way.
If your hair is feeling rough, use a silk or satin pillowcase and add a mask between toning rinses. Always rinse with clean water after swimming, and never let violet products sit for longer than recommended. If you need help building your own kit or want to check if your toner is fading too fast, send us a message through our contact form. We’re here for any Cape Town summer blondeness.
