Day protect
Sun Shield Mist
Sun Shield Mist is a daily leave-in spray for highlighted, lightened and naturally blonde hair, made for South African UV and coastal conditions. Easy to carry and simple to reapply.
What Sun Shield Mist is for and who needs it
Sun Shield Mist is a lightweight, dry-finish leave-in spray for anyone with salon-lightened, highlighted or naturally fair hair. Blondes are especially prone to UV fade, dryness, and tone shift, so sun care is not optional in our climate.
If you live or work in Gauteng, Pretoria, Durban or Cape Town, you know how quickly the midday sun can dry out fresh toner or lift the cuticle. Highveld and coastal UV is harsh, and even short walks from the office or car park can fade colour between salon visits. Sun Shield Mist was made for these real-life South African days, when sun exposure is not always planned.
This mist is suited to all hair types needing UV protection but is especially important for lightened hair, which is more porous and vulnerable to both colour fade and dryness.

How to use Sun Shield Mist correctly
Start each morning by lightly misting mid-lengths and ends, holding the bottle about 20 centimetres from your hair. Spray onto dry or towel-dried hair after your usual leave-in products, never directly onto the scalp.
For fine hair, our studio tip is to spray Sun Shield Mist onto your palm first, then gently smooth over the surface of your hair. This helps avoid over-applying or weighing down delicate strands.
Keep the bottle in your tote or bag, not in a hot car boot, and reapply midday or after lunch, especially if you have been outside or under strong indoor lights. If you swim, rinse pool water out first, then reapply. Spray before outdoor events, school runs, campus days or braais.
- Mist mid-lengths and ends, not roots
- Layer over your usual leave-in or serum
- Reapply at lunch and during long outdoor days
- Store in your bag, not in the car boot
What to expect in the first few weeks and what to avoid
In the first weeks, you should notice your hair feeling less dry and rough after daytime sun, especially in Joburg or on the coast. Your colour and toner may hold their brightness longer between salon visits, and ends will feel softer, not brittle.
A common mistake is only misting once in the morning. Sun Shield Mist is designed to be reapplied, especially during peak UV between 11:00 and 15:00. Another mistake is using too much at once: a light, even layer is enough. Avoid spraying onto the scalp, as it is meant for the exposed lengths.
If your hair feels coated or heavy, use less product, spray from further away, or try the palm method for fine hair. For those with very dry hair or after swimming, layer over your usual leave-in before misting.
How Sun Shield Mist fits with the rest of our range
Sun Shield Mist sits alongside our leave-in Bond Soft Serum and Length Oil Drop as your daily routine for blonde maintenance in the South African sun. It layers well over these products, adding UV protection without buildup or greasiness.
For pool or surf days, pair with Brighten Care Set for your washes, and always rinse hair with tap water before swimming. For weekly repair, the Silk Repair Mask helps restore softness after days outdoors.
When travelling, our Travel Care Trio includes a mini Sun Shield Mist for all-day reapply. Our Colour Steady Kit is good for bridging those longer gaps between salon toners, especially when sun and UV fade are your biggest worries.
