Using Sun Shield Mist on the Highveld

On the Highveld, sunlight is sharp and the UV index often peaks at 11 or higher, especially between 11:00 and 15:00. Keep Sun Shield Mist in your tote, not the boot, so it stays cool and close for midday top-ups. The dry air and moderately hard Rand Water can leave blonde hair feeling dull and brittle if you don’t keep up with leave-in moisture and UV protection.

Spray Sun Shield Mist over damp or dry hair before stepping out, and reapply after lunch if you’re outdoors. For very fine hair, pump the mist onto your palm first, then smooth over mid-lengths and ends to avoid weighing your roots down. Remember, power cuts can mean no air-con, so hair dries out fast in offices too.

  • Peak UV: 11:00 to 15:00
  • Store in your tote, not in the car boot
  • Layer over other leave-ins
  • Mist or palm-apply for finer hair

Coastal humidity, salt and wind

At the coast, Durban brings humidity and sweat, while Cape Town means wind, salt, and much softer water. Sun Shield Mist helps by sealing the cuticle before frizz and dryness settle in. Reapply at midday, especially if you’ve been at the beach or outdoors, and use it after rinsing hair to help block salt’s drying effect.

Don’t forget pool water and salt can strip protein from lightened hair, so before swimming, mist generously and top with a leave-in conditioner or keep hair under a hat or swim cap. After the pool, rinse with clean water, then use Sun Shield Mist again for protection.

  • Use before and after beach or pool
  • Blocks some salt and sun damage
  • Works over damp or dry hair
  • Handle Cape wind by tying hair loosely

Adjusting for summer, winter and indoor heat

In summer, use Sun Shield Mist before and after pool days, and every time you step out for lunch or errands. It’s small enough to pack for holidays or weekends away. In winter, especially on the Highveld, dry air and heated offices can make ends brittle and static worse. Use the mist each morning and keep a travel size in your bag for midday dryness.

If your office or classroom is heated, hair can lose moisture even indoors. Mist lightly over lengths and ends before sitting down. It only takes a few seconds, but those little habits mean you dont end up with rough, faded lengths by the time you’re back in the salon chair.

  • Extra for pool and beach days
  • Winter: use after removing hats
  • Mist in heated indoor spaces
  • Fits in a handbag or gym bag
