Highveld brass control with dry air and hard water

In Joburg and Pretoria, hair faces harsh sun, dry winds and moderately hard tap water, which can dull toner and expose brass quickly. UV index often reaches extreme levels, especially in summer, so toner fades fast and the cuticle dries out. Use your Violet Soft Rinse every time you notice yellow tones, but always check hair tone in natural daylight, not under indoor bulbs.

Since hard water can leave mineral residue, make sure to rinse until water runs fully clear. Always wear gloves, and time the contact carefully: lighter or very porous hair only needs 2 to 3 minutes. If hair starts looking lilac, stop early. In winter, static and dry ends mean you should follow with a nourishing mask or leave-in to keep lengths soft.

  • Check tone near a window, not under artificial light
  • Rinse well after each use to clear minerals
  • Apply Silk Repair Mask after in dry winter

Blonde routines for coastal humidity, wind and salt

In Durban or Cape Town, moisture, salt and softer municipal water all change how Violet Soft Rinse works. Humidity on the KZN coast can draw out frizz and make brass more visible, while Cape wind and salt air roughen the cuticle. Here, pigment shifts quickly but soft water means it rinses out easily.

Keep contact time on the short side if your hair is very pale or porous. After swimming in the sea or pools, rinse with clean tap water first, then use the Violet Soft Rinse as normal. Always rinse completely and use a leave-in mist with UV filters if you’ll be outdoors. A silk pillowcase can cut down on friction overnight.

  • Shorten timing for very pale or porous hair
  • Rinse sea or pool water out before use
  • Use Sun Shield Mist before and after sun

Adjust for sunny summers and dry winters

South African blondes see big seasonal swings: summer brings harsh sun and pool days, while winter dries out ends and offices heat the air. In summer, always protect hair from UV with leave-in products or a hat, and reapply the Sun Shield Mist around midday. When pools are in play, wet your hair and use a leave-in before swimming to block chlorine and copper, then use Violet Soft Rinse when brass appears.

In winter, static and dryness can make hair more fragile. After using Violet Soft Rinse, follow with a deep moisturising mask or a light oil on the ends. Watch for dullness from indoor heaters and power cuts, and remember to adjust timing: less contact if hair feels dry, a touch longer if brass lingers.

  • Time rinse to hair’s condition, not the calendar
  • Moisturise after toning in dry seasons
  • Reapply UV protection on sunny days
