Using Bond Soft Serum on the Highveld
The Highveld’s dry air and strong summer sun are rough on lightened hair. After a salon lift, hair feels soft but is actually more porous and can snap easily if handled wet. Bond Soft Serum is made for this climate: smooth a pea to almond sized amount through damp mid-lengths and ends, keeping away from the roots. Layer it under your Sun Shield Mist for extra UV protection, especially from 11:00 to 15:00 when the index climbs high.
Rand Water is moderately hard, so blonde hair may feel drier after a wash here. Always rinse thoroughly, then lock in moisture with the serum before using any heat. When blow drying, use the lowest heat setting and slow down. If you miss a section or rush out the door, its easy to go back and add a half drop to dry lengths for static. Avoid soaking the scalp, and remember: silk pillowcases help keep ends smooth overnight.
- Add under leave-in mist for extra UV defence
- Stick to low heat when styling
- Rinse well to avoid mineral build-up

Bond care for the coast
Durban’s all-year humidity and Cape Town’s salty air and wind both mean frizz and rough cuticles for lighter hair. After washing, apply Bond Soft Serum before combing to help detangle without snapping fragile ends. It seals out some of the coastal moisture and helps lengths dry softer, especially when sea breeze or salt spray is around.
Cape Town’s soft municipal water can make blonde hair feel silkier but also leaves it open to faster toner fade. If you swim, wet hair first and apply a little serum or leave-in to act as a barrier before pool or sea. After a swim, always rinse with fresh water and repeat your serum habit. If you’re in strong wind, tie hair up before heading out, and finish with a light mist or serum touch-up.
- Apply before combing out after wash
- Wet and protect hair before swimming
- Use extra for wind or salt exposure
Seasonal shifts and Bond Soft Serum
In summer, expect to reapply Bond Soft Serum more often if you are swimming, out in the sun or washing hair frequently. UV is harsh in December through to March, so double up with your Sun Shield Mist at midday and after any swim. Chlorine and copper in pools can tinge blonde green: use a serum barrier before you swim, and rinse right after.
Winter on the Highveld means indoor heat, cold mornings and static. Blonde ends dry out fast, and you might forget to use enough leave-in before blow drying. Dont skip your serum step, even if it feels like a rush. In Cape Town, dampness and indoor heating can surprise you by making hair limp or frizzy. Adjust the amount of serum: a little less if your hair feels flat, more if it’s dry. Keep a silk wrap or pillowcase habit all year.
- Reapply after sun or swimming
- Adjust amount for humidity or dryness
- Keep leave-in and silk habits in all seasons
