Violet Soft Rinse

Violet Soft Rinse ritual

Violet Soft Rinse is our quick, gentle routine for keeping blonde tones cool at home. Here is how to use it for even, fresh results between salon visits.

Follow these steps for an even cool finish

Start with freshly washed, towel-dried hair. Make sure your hair is damp, not dripping, and detangle with a wide-tooth comb first. Put on gloves to avoid staining your hands and nails. If you have rings or light-coloured nail polish, remove them or keep hands covered.

Dispense enough Violet Soft Rinse for your length: about one walnut-sized amount for fine or short hair, two for mid-length or thick hair. Work it through the mid-lengths and ends, using your fingers or a wide comb to distribute it evenly. Avoid your scalp unless yellowing there is a problem. Time your contact: 3 to 5 minutes for most, up to 8 minutes if your hair is very thick, coarse or particularly brassy.

Rinse thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Check your tone in natural daylight if possible. Follow with a lightweight conditioner or a drop of ends oil if your hair needs extra softness. Use every 1 to 2 washes or as your stylist recommends.

  • Wear gloves
  • Apply to damp, detangled hair
  • Time carefully: 3 to 8 minutes
  • Rinse until water is clear
  • Check tone in daylight

Timing and amounts for every hair type

For fine or very pale blonde hair, start with 3 minutes and a single walnut-sized amount. Pale and porous hair picks up violet pigment faster, so less is more. For medium hair, use up to two walnut-sized amounts and leave on for 4 to 5 minutes. Add a minute if your hair is thick, coarse, or slow to tone, but always check a strand at the halfway mark if you are trying a longer timing.

If your hair is longer than mid-back, divide it into two sections to work the product in evenly. Always rinse thoroughly. Remember, overuse or extra-long contact can lead to a lilac or dull finish, especially on very light, porous hair.

  • Fine: 3 minutes, 1 walnut amount
  • Medium: 4 to 5 minutes, 2 walnut amounts
  • Thick/coarse: up to 8 minutes, 2+ walnut amounts
  • Very pale: check at 3 minutes and rinse early if needed

What to do if your hair feels too warm, ashy or heavy

If your hair still looks yellow or warm after a rinse, you can repeat the process on the next wash or leave the product on for up to one minute longer next time. For orange tones, ask your stylist whether to add a blue-based product or adjust your rinse routine.

If your hair turns out too ashy, lilac or dull, wash once with a gentle shampoo and skip violet products for a week. Use a nourishing mask like Silk Repair Mask to soften the feel if it goes heavy or dry. For sticky or coated lengths, reduce the amount or frequency of Violet Soft Rinse and avoid overlapping it with other purple or heavy conditioners. If you are unsure, send us a message through our contact form for personal advice.

Need help with violet timing?

For help with Violet Soft Rinse timing, use our contact form and note your blonde level, hair thickness, and whether brassiness shows most at the roots or through the ends. Photos taken in natural daylight are useful, especially in strong South African sun where warmth shows quickly. If your hair is very porous, freshly lightened, or fitted with extensions, mention that so the ritual guidance can match your routine.
