Cool Tone Gloss ritual
Our Cool Tone Gloss is a short-contact gloss for refreshing cool blonde at home between salon visits. Keep your tone bright, calm brass and protect softness in a few deliberate minutes.
How to use Cool Tone Gloss at home
Start with clean, towel-dried hair. Put on gloves to avoid a faint violet stain on your hands. Section your hair into two or four larger pieces for even coverage. Squeeze a small amount of Cool Tone Gloss into your palm, work it through each section from mid-lengths to ends, avoiding the scalp. Comb through for good distribution, especially if your hair tangles easily.
Set your timer for 3 to 8 minutes, depending on the result you want and your hair's porosity. Rinse thoroughly in cool or lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Follow with your usual rinse or mask, and finish with a leave-in if you need extra softness. Dont be surprised if blonde roots take up more violet and look cooler than the rest, this is normal in the first few weeks after a highlight. Never leave it longer hoping for platinum: over-toning can leave pale hair with a grey or lilac cast.
- Gloves on, always
- Apply to towel-damp hair
- Work from mid-lengths to ends
- Timer: 3 to 8 minutes
- Rinse until clear

Timing and amounts for your hair type
For fine or very porous hair, start with a pea to hazelnut-sized amount per section and a 3-minute timer. Medium density hair can take a little more product and 4 to 5 minutes. Thick hair may need up to an almond-sized amount per section, and you can extend to 6 to 8 minutes if your tone is stubbornly warm.
If you are unsure, always start at the minimum time and check the result in natural daylight near a window before deciding to repeat or increase. Overlapping too often or using excess product will not give extra brightness, it can just make hair feel heavy or dull.
Fine-tuning your results
If your hair is still too warm or brassy after using Cool Tone Gloss, check your water source, hard borehole water or copper pipes can shift the tone. Try a second gloss application in a few days, or combine with a clarifying wash if you swim often. For hair that turns too ashy or grey, reduce your timer by a minute or dilute the gloss with a little rinse before applying.
When hair feels heavy or coated after a gloss, use a lighter conditioner next time and rinse more thoroughly. If ends feel dry, follow with Bond Soft Serum or Length Oil Drop and wrap in silk overnight. Always photograph your result in daylight, not under bathroom bulbs, before you decide to adjust your routine.
Cool gloss timing checks
Use our contact form if your blonde grabs violet unevenly or your mids and ends process at different speeds in strong South African sun. Tell us whether you left Cool Tone Gloss on for 3, 5 or 8 minutes, and whether your hair was freshly highlighted, porous, fine or thick.
